“The Paper” Is the Next Chapter in The Office Universe—And It’s Coming This Fall

Big news for The Office fans—there’s a new spinoff on the way! Peacock has officially announced “The Paper”, a fresh mockumentary-style series set to premiere in September 2025.

This time, the story moves away from Dunder Mifflin and into the chaotic world of a struggling local newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. The show is created by The Office mastermind Greg Daniels along with Michael Koman, known for his work on Nathan for You.

Leading the cast is Domhnall Gleeson, who plays the overwhelmed publisher of the dying paper. With a tight budget and no real journalists on hand, he’s stuck managing a group of underqualified staffers who now double as volunteer reporters. The show takes a humorous look at the downfall of local news and how the internet has shaken up traditional media. Daniels called it “a fruitful premise” for comedy—and it sounds like a perfect match for fans of awkward workplace humor.

There’s also a familiar face returning: Oscar Nuñez is back as Oscar Martinez, continuing his character’s journey from The Office. At a recent event, he joked that he always pictured Oscar moving somewhere more glamorous—yet here he is in Toledo, which, as he pointed out, actually has three times the population of Scranton.

The series features a talented ensemble cast, including Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. Fun fact: some cast members—like Ikumelo, Edelman, and Mo Welch—are also helping to write the show.

Guest stars you can look out for include Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, and Nancy Lenehan.

Produced by Universal Television, The Paper brings together a powerhouse team of executive producers: Daniels, Koman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.

If you loved The Office, this next chapter might just be your new favorite binge.
